Training is open to all who are keen, but if you are looking to play Division 1 in 2017, you either need to be commencing training ASAP, or speak to head coach, Tess Baxter. Long Lunch – Friday August 7
As advertised in Substandard recently, we have stuck with the proven formula of having the Long Lunch on the day of the Crows only Friday Night game of the year, which this year happens to be Friday August 7. As is tradition, we have also sought an entertaining and diverse guest speaker with a strong Uni Football connection and this year that connection is a very tight one. We are delighted to announce that Tim “Plug” Harcourt and Brenton “Sticks” Phillips will be the guest speakers this year, ably supported by Clint Rule & Tom Martin as your MCs for the afternoon.
Tim Harcourt is currently the inaugural Adviser-Global Engagement to the Premier of South Australia, a position he holds on a part-time basis. He teaches International Business at the Australian School of Business at UNSW, in the AGSM MBAprogramme in Asia and Latin America with a focus on China, India, ASEAN, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and other emerging markets. Tim is an active commentator in the Australian and international media on economic and trade issues and appears regularly on TV and radio shows, and he has also written recently on the global expansion and economic impact of AFL footy. Most importantly, Plug was an important member of the Scum team of the 80s and famously had Bob Neil tap the keg at his 21st. He is also the son of club legend Prof Geoff Harcourt.
After a decorated playing career with North Adelaide (including a Magarey Medal and being named in the North team of the century), Essendon and the Brisbane Bears, Sticks Phillips started his coaching journey at the Blacks in 2000 and 2001, including a grand final loss in 01. He then moved to Sturt, where he coached a premiership in his first year in charge breaking a26 year drought. Most recently he has achieved some amazing results as coach of the State Under 18 team, which this year featured famous Blacks names such as Olekalns and Bonner, including winning the National title in 2014.
Snapshot of Details as follows:
Date: Friday August 7, 12 for 12:30 start
Venue: Adelaide Uni Boat Club, followed by the Long Room
